Gorreana Tea Plantation

Are you a tea lover like me? You live in Europe and you want to know how tea is produced. I have some good news for you. You don’t need to go to Sri Lanka or India to discover that. There’s a much cheaper option. On the island of São Miguel in the Azores you will find the only tea plantations in Europe. And the surroundings are magical!

We visited the Gorreana plantation, which was founded in 1883. This small factory offers an intriguing (and free) insight into the tea-making process, as well as the chance to enjoy a fragrant brew.

The factory produces both black and green tea, which is made from the leaves of a plant called the Camellia sinensis. However it is how the tea leaf is processed that creates the difference.
