It was a hiking-shoes-day. I am saying this because today we visited Gruta do Carvão, an extraordinary volcanic cave, which is located by the ring road of the town.

For only 5 euros, you will have a detailed guided tour, a colorful helmet and most of all – a real treat to your eyes.

This cave was a real discovery for me. I was astonished by its colors, its age and its unusual shape.

The tour lasted about 20 minutes but you can also make a 3-hour tour of the cave. However, you must be prepared to climb and crawl but it is definitely worth a try.
