The Fairy Tale World of Hundertwasser
Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser was an Austrian painter, sculptor and architect. Born in Vienna, he became one of the best-known contemporary Austrian artists.
The common themes in his work utilized bright colors, organic forms, a reconciliation of humans with nature, and a strong individualism, rejecting straight lines.
The Hundertwasserhaus, which is one of Austria’s most visited buildings, features undulating floors, a roof covered with earth and grass, and large trees growing from inside the rooms, with branches extending from windows.Within the house there are 53 apartments, four offices, 16 private terraces and three communal terraces, and a total of 250 trees and bushes.
This is the KunstHausWien, which houses the world’s only permanent exhibition of Hundertwasser‘s works.
Hundertwasser was often compared to Antonio Gaudi and Gustav Klimt.
